Echocardiogram also called cardiac echo or echo is a test that creates images of heart using sound waves. Also known as sonogram of the heart, it is of different types.
Types of Echocardiogram
Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) – Most common type that views by moving the transducer to on chest or abdominal wall
Stress echocardiogram – Checks blood flow to the heart. Done both before and after the heart is put to stress by either giving an injection to increase heart beat or having you exercise
Doppler echocardiogram – Checks blood flow in the heart chambers, heart valves, and blood vessels
Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) – Gives clearer pictures of heart as the probe is moved down through esophagus to view heart
