Enteroscopy

Enteroscopy is a digestive system evaluation technique without using any incision. It is also used to treat digestive system problems. During an enteroscopy, an endoscope (thin flexible tube) with a camera is inserted into your body. The endoscope has one or two balloons which can be inflated to help in a better view of your digestive system part – esophagus, stomach, and a part of the small intestine. A tissue sample for analysis may be also taken out during enteroscopy.

Enteroscopy are of two types – upper and lower. In an upper enteroscopy, the endoscope is inserted into the mouth while in a lower it is inserted into the rectum. The type of enteroscopy depends on the kind of complication to be diagnosed.

Done under sedation, it takes between 45 min- two hours to complete the procedure. After he procedure you may experience some abdominal bloating, sore throat, nausea, minor bleeding or mild cramping.
