Cost of Myomectomy

Myomectomy can be performed through either transvaginal or transabdominal procedure. Thus, the cost of the surgery in India ranges between USD 4600 to USD 6000.

Myomectomy Procedure

Myomectomy (also called fibroidectomy) is the surgical removal of uterine fibroids (leiomyomas). Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the uterus that cause heavy bleeding and pelvic pain.

Unlike hysterectomy which involves complete removal of uterus, Myomectomy preserves the uterus.

Done under anesthesia, Myomectomy surgery may take about three hours to complete depending upon the number and type of fibroids. In case of laparoscopic Myomectomy small incisions in the abdomen will be made to reach out to the uterus compared to open Myomectomy.

Recovery after Myomectomy

You may have a hospital stay for about two-three days while in laparoscopic Myomectomy, only one-day stay may be required. You can get back to normal activities within two weeks.

When is Myomectomy done?

When fibroids in the uterus obstruct your fertility, i:e., ability to get pregnant, the doctor may recommended Myomectomy. Also, when fibroids symptoms like excessive menstrual bleeding and pelvic pain interfere with normal routine life, they are suggested to be removed surgically.
