Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery (robot-assisted surgery) is an advanced method to perform many types of surgeries using a robotic arm that is controlled by the surgeon.

Complex procedures can be performed with more precision and flexibility compared to the traditional techniques like open and cut surgery. Also known as laparoscopy with robotic assistance, robotic surgery is minimally invasive i.e., require less small cuts or incisions.

Robot assisted surgery is done under general anesthesia. The surgeon sits on a computer controlling and directing the movements of a robot arm which holds small surgical tools.

Small cuts are made to insert instruments along with an endoscope (thin tube) with a camera that allows the surgeon to view big 3D images of inside your body during the surgery.

Advantages of Robotic surgery

  • Quicker recovery
  • Smaller scars, less noticeable
  • Less chances of infection
  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Shorter hospital stay

Common Robotic Surgeries

Some of the surgeries in which Robotic surgery are used are:

  • Heart surgeries
  • Some Cancer surgeries
  • Hysterectomy
  • Cholecystectomy – Gallbladder removal
  • Kidney removal
  • Hip replacement
  • Kidney transplant
  • Tubal ligation
  • Radical prostatectomy and cystectomy
